The theory of large inextensional deformation of cantilevered plates, as recently put forth by Simmonds and Libai, is extended to include orthotropic plates and plates with distributed loading. The bending rigidities of the orthotropic plate are calculated in terms of known material constants, and as functions of the single curvilinear coordinate employed in the theory. The constitutive relationships are then reformulated and the equilibrium equations transformed accordingly. The distributed loading that enters into the local equilibrium equations of the Simmonds-Libai theory is, in this paper, carried through to the overall equilibrium equations.
