The solution of the Fredholm integral equation with weak singularity using the finite-element approach is described. Several methods of evaluating the elemental integrals are considered in relation to an analytic test problem. Comparison of the results shows that although explicit integration will usually give a more accurate solution, there are advantages in approximate integration for more complicated systems.
