The theory of finite elasticity is used to describe the large elastic deformation of a circular cylindrical tube into an endless belt which passes over two cylindrical rollers. A perturbation solution is obtained applicable when the thickness of the tube is small. It is found that the solution breaks down where the belt leaves the rollers, and the method of matched asymptotic expansions is used to obtain the deformation in those regions.
