An elementary solution of the plane-stress equation of nonhomogeneous elasticity is derived for the case in which the elastic constants are functions of only one variable. This solution may be applied to the calculation of the stress distribution in a nonhomogeneous beam under an end load or a distributed load. The case of a sandwich beam under an end load is worked out as an illustrative example.
