Information on the propagation of compressional waves in a rod, in accord with the Mindlin-Herrmann approximate theory, is presented. The information stems from two sources: (a) A numerical evaluation of a previously derived integral solution, for the problem of a semi-infinite rod subjected to a step axial pressure, and (b) application of Kelvin’s stationary-phase method to the classical problem of the infinite rod subjected initially to an infinite axial pressure at the origin.
