Abstract

The equation of a thin-walled reducer with constant circumferential plane stress under uniform internal pressure is derived. Such reducers were first conceived by Dr. H. C. Boardman who referred to them as ideal. These reducers may be used either to connect two coaxial cylinders of different diameters or as nozzle flares for spherical heads and cone frustums.
