Understanding how tissue damage leading to sprains initiates and propagates is essential for developing adequate prevention and treatment strategies. Recent studies [1] have focused on characterizing the cellular and micro-structual origin of damage in rat medial collateral ligaments (MCLs). Provenzano et al. [1] demonstrated that structural damage occurs at 5.14% strain. In their study, damage was defined as the non-recoverable increase in strain after different stretches were applied to the MCLs.
