Acupuncture is an ancient therapy that has been clinically proven for treating pain and nausea , though by unknown mechanisms. Recent in vivo and ex vivo studies demonstrate that acupuncture generates changes in the local tissue biomechanical environment, which may have been overlooked in previous neurophysiological studies .
