This paper defines the requirements and objectives for performing Flow Induced Vibration (FIV) Monitoring and Analysis program on selected piping systems that have a potential to experience high vibration levels at nuclear plants. The contributing factor is the implementation of extended power uprates that increase flows in the critical systems. The work windows for the implementation of the testing are during the startup of the plant refueling outage and the subsequent startup following the implementation of the power uprates. The work includes procurement of instrumentation, software and hardware packages, design / fabrication of instrumentation mounting devices, and installation of instrumentation on piping. The work also includes technical services such as engineering, on-site testing support, documentation, quality control, quality assurance and analyses required to verify that the flow induced vibratory levels of the selected piping systems are within acceptable limits for those operating conditions anticipated during service. This paper outlines design and installation limitations experienced during the limited outage windows when this program is initiated during the plant’s outage. The paper further outlines the scope required to successfully implement the required Design Change Package (DCP) to install the instrumentation, cable, plant hardware, and other supporting equipment to measure vibration levels and ensure acceptability.
