Abstract
The latest edition of ASME PCC-1 was released in September 2022. This edition represents a shift in the document as it transitions from a set of guidelines to a standard. Additionally, the document adopts a change in writing style in accordance with the ASME Style Guide, with an objective of providing better clarity in presenting the technical content of the document. This paper has several purposes. The first is to outline the process in how the document was rewritten, to whom was the document targeting, and to categorize the technical content into choices or selections that needed to be made, and instructions that were recommended for inclusion into the assembly procedure. The insights gained during the rewrite may prove to be insightful to others who are considering similar types of clarity rewrites of their standards. The second purpose of this paper is to identify and summarize the primary changes that appear in the 2022 edition of ASME PCC-1, for the benefit of those bolted joint practitioners who will be using the document. Finally, the paper will identify some elements that are in the course of preparation that may be issued before the next edition in the form of an early implementation Case.
