With fracture toughness of carbon/low alloy steels deduced from UG-84 in ASME BPV CODE VIII-1 and table 3.13 in ASME BPV CODE VIII-2 and assessment methods stipulated in Chinese standard GB/T 19624, assessment for safety margin for elongated defect acceptance criteria stipulated in UW-51/52 of ASME Codes shows that the acceptance criteria given could attain safe result for all embedded and surface circumferential elongated defects, except for those located in all highly constrained area. But for some longitudinal elongated defects unsafe results have been found, and some revision suggested for acceptance criteria has been pointed out.
