This paper describes the outline of RBM related activities in both nuclear and non-nuclear field in Japan. One of the key elements to promote RBM activities in Japan is to develop RBM related standard. For the maintenance code, the fitness for service (FFS) code is now available in many industries. The next step to improve the inspection process for the aged plants is considered to be a risk based inspection (RBI). This paper summarizes the activities for developing RBI guideline in two societies. Background and subjects to be solved are also shown.
