For reduce of cost to construct urban drainage pump station, the efforts to design compact and high-velocity pump sumps has been made. It is necessary to investigate the generation of harmful vortex to design such smaller pump sump, but model test is mainly used for the investigation. In the present paper, the vortex method is applied to the numerical simulation of unsteady and three-dimensional flow in suction pit of drainage pump station, and air-intake vortex and submerged vortex cavitation is investigated and predicted. In the first step, on extremely different two variables of velocity, frequency to generate vortex is found out from pressure fluctuation on the flow by the vortex method, and it is confirmed that calculated frequency is comparative close to experimental value.
