This paper is complementary to the paper (Chernyavsky, Timashev, et al. published in this volume of PVD’03) and describes in detail the results of non-linear FEM analysis of corrosion defects on the outer surface of the pipe. It deals with assessment of the critical defect size when the nominal operating pressure causes loss of pipe integrity.
