An numerical investigation on the cooling of PDP (Plasma Display Panel) was performed in this study. Four shapes of the heat spreader, as the cooling enhancement devices in PDP, were tested: Flat shape, I-shaped rib, V-shaped rib, and Z-shaped rib. The heat spreader of flat shape was simple aluminum flat plate and three heat spreaders of I-shaped rib, V-shaped rib, and Z-shaped rib had a lot of ribs which were ribbed on an aluminum flat plate to increase the surface area and to interrupt the growth of the boundary layer. The results of three ribbed shapes were compared to those of the flat shape in this study. Cooling performance have evaluated with temperature uniformity and dimensionless temperature difference between surface temperature of heat spreader and ambient temperature. Additionally an PIV (Particle Image Velocimetry) experiment was made and some related results have been presented. As a final result, it has been found that the heat spreader of V-shaped rib had the best performance among the three ribbed shapes.
