This paper compares our recently-developed goal-oriented adaptive analysis process with the newly available adaptive capability in Unigraphics (UG) V17 scenario with focus on automotive applications. The error estimators and mesh adaptation procedures employed in both adaptive processes are reviewed. The goal-oriented process incorporates a posteriori error estimator of quantities of interest and a quadrilateral refinement tool so that the adaptivity is done to achieve the specific goal of analysis. The comparisons between the two adaptive processes are demonstrated on several practical problems.
