Optimization and innovation of all systems are needed to increase the energy saving and reduce emissions in coal-fired power plants. Design changes can be made that are inexpensive, low risk and effective.

A series of optimization and innovation designs have been developed to significantly increase the efficiency of 2×1000MW ultra supercritical (USC) units in China. The turbine efficiency limitations due to solid particle erosion are eliminated by these improvements. The normal deterioration of the turbine efficiency has also been eliminated.

The units net efficiency at the rated operation conditions including the Flue Gas Desulphurization (FGD) and Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) systems now exceeds 46.5% for a single reheat system.
