Ships and offshore structures are exposed to various types of extreme and accidental events including fire, explosion, collision, dropped objects, etc. These events lead to nonlinear structural consequences. This paper focused on grated-steel deck structures subjected to dropped-objects. The aim of this paper is to confirm the nonlinear impact response of grated-steel deck structures. An experimental study was undertaken in a dropped object test facility and LS-DYNA nonlinear finite element computations were also performed for the corresponding test models. It is noted that nonlinear finite element analyses are useful in the analysis of the nonlinear impact structural responses as long as the modeling techniques are adequate. The conclusions developed in this paper will be informative in the safety design of ships and offshore structures.
