This paper deals with the improvement of AUV/UROV’s hydrodynamic performance. Required hydrodynamic performance of AUV/UROV can be divided into propulsive performance and kinematic performance/maneuverability. Within these, propulsive performance of AUV/UROV is focused on this paper. Firstly, numerical and experimental methods are used to evaluate resistance performance of the original and changed body shape of a sample UROV. Secondly, we investigated the performance of a thruster equipped on the sample UROV. Finally, the balance point of the resistance of the bodies and thrust generated by thrusters is investigated and evaluate the efficiency for cruising.
