Noise and vibration prediction technology based on acoustic FEM, hybrid method and SEA methods is applied to the design of a semi-submersible drilling rig. The modeling and vibra-acoustic computation are combined into the same software environment. Noise transmission paths are identified and feasible noise reduction designs are proposed with adding absorption and insulation materials. In order to meet with the strict requirements on sound pressure levels, damping materials are also used in some special areas.
