Wing in ground effect (WIG) craft is one, which taps the advantage of ground effect by cruising just over the surface. Though it has the capabilities of being the most promising mode of transport in this century, many problems must be addressed before using it as future high-speed marine craft and sea liner. The greatest impediment to the overall utility of the vehicle is the high takeoff drag and the power requirement associated with it. This paper mainly deals with the drag characteristics of a typical WIG craft. The analysis has been done empirically following Savitsky’s approach.
