Selected results of the European research project DEXTREMEL are presented with emphasis on green water loads on the forward bulkhead of the superstructure of a RoRo passenger ferry. The finite volume code COMET was used to predict these loads. Model tests were carried out in a seakeeping basin. Experimental measurements comprised wave heights along the deck contour and local pressures at the forward bulkhead. In addition, a laser-based measurement technique visualized green water contours on the deck. Effects of boundary conditions and initial conditions were studied for simulation of flow over the deck. Predicted wave heights and impact pressures were compared with measurements. It is shown that some features of the complex flow over the deck can be predicted and that resulting impact pressures are in fair agreement with measurements.
