Online Monitoring (OLM) measures the acceleration response of platforms to the wave motion with damage being identified by a change in the measured response. This paper discusses a JIP instigated by EQE and Fugro to assess the applicability of OLM to different classes of North Sea jackets. Fugro studied ways of increasing the sensitivity of the method by improving the data collection and interpretation techniques, whilst EQE performed modal and pushover analyses in damaged and undamaged jackets to identify which jackets are suitable for OLM. The study showed that OLM is applicable to most 4-legged structures, but probably not 6- and 8-legged structures.
