Abstract

The study reports experimental results of a closed-loop oscillating heat pipe and a thermosyphon operated with a ferronanofluid under magnetic field. The results show that the ferronanofluid improves the thermal performance of both devices compared to the pure basefluid deionised water. However, applying an outer static magnetic field reduces the amount of heat transferred. These findings give hope to employing ferronanofluids in combination with switchable electromagnets to control the thermal performance of closed-loop oscillating heat pipes and thermosyphons.
