DC series motors are widely used in heavy-duty industrial applications due to their exceptional starting torque capabilities. The starting torque requirement for these motors places significant stress on the connection bolts within the motor setup. When these connection bolts become loose, whether due to variations in tension between the motor and the setup, dynamic loads, or inadequate force during installation, it leads to detrimental consequences. Loose bolts adversely affect the motor’s performance, potentially causing damage to the setup and gears, and even failure of the cranking procedure. In light of these concerns, this paper investigates the effect of the DC series motors with loose bolt connections. It aims to demonstrate how insufficient torque applied to the connection bolts adversely affects motor performance. Furthermore, this paper introduces an approach for fault detection using wavelet techniques to identify and address this issue in DC series motors.
