A microscopic locomotive emission model based on power balance framework is deeply studied in this paper. First, on the basis of summarizing characteristics of diesel locomotive exhausts, relevant factors affecting emissions such as technology, operation and environment are discussed. Second, from perspective of emission production mechanism a systematic framework based on power balance is proposed and analyzed. Then, some specific formulas calculating energy consumption, fuel use, emissions are given in detail on the basis of train operation mode.. Finally, a simulation case is illustrated to evaluate the methods schematically compared to emission standard in China.
