For the purpose of being competitive in the market place, manufacturing companies apply discrete event systems on their production lines. They have to continue improving the manufacturing systems in addition to the products. Due to the growing market of automation simulation software, digital production has become more and more sophisticated. Industrial companies utilize these software packages to increase profits, decrease costs and reduce the manufacturing cycle time. Research and development areas have been identified and discussed between discrete event and geometric simulators as well as between simulators and the real shop-floor. The goal of this research is to create a method of defining the optimized path of robotic assembly to meet the requirements of manufacturing scheme. The quantitative measure of optimization in this paper is completion time, as this is generally a key parameter of interest in production. The method of modeling and analyzing is performed through the use of virtual robotics simulations via PLCStudio, as well as an external optimization algorithm constructed in LabVIEW.
