Amonix has manufactured and installed over 350 kW of their 5th generation high concentration PV systems for Arizona Public Service (APS). This paper describes the power and energy performance of the system since the start of installation in May 2000 and describes the operating characteristics that make this system attractive for both on-grid and off-grid use. The performance of a unit with the latest design revisions is compared to the performance of one of the first manufactured units, and the reasons for the improvements are discussed. Data are also presented that show the Amonix system will produce more annual energy per installed kW than will a conventional fixed-flat plate system. The current construction status of the largest concentrating PV plant in the world is also discussed.
