Abstract

Advances in our knowledge and experience with mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) and their potential use in repair and regeneration of skeletal tissue, such as tendon [1,7], cartilage [6] and bone [3], makes this multipotential cell an attractive choice for such transplantation therapies. Our search for appropriate cell-delivery scaffolds, however, continues. We have utilized collagen to construct cell-seeded implants for tendon repair because collagen is the most abundant protein in these tissues.
