Abstract
Designing smart structural systems with induced strain elements, like piezoelectric ceramic actuators, is a comprehensive issue, involving not only geometry and material data but also the behavior of the coupled host system as a main aspect. For an effective control of structural vibration due to external or environmental loads, an accurate description of the system is needed. An analytical based method for the characterization of the complete system under consideration of local increase of stiffness and mass by integrating sensor and actuator elements will be presented in this paper.
