Segmented flow occurs in several microfluidic systems such as monolith reactors, cellular systems, and human airways. Liquid-gas bubbles can cause different issues in the micro-channel by disturbing the flow and even blocking the channel. Investigating this kind of flow phenomenon provides useful information for improving the efficiency of both industrial and biomedical devices. Predicting the velocity of bubbles, velocity within the liquid slug and the thickness of the thin liquid film in the slug flow is one of the challenges in this field. In this paper, a novel measurement technique capable of measuring three components of the velocity is described and used to investigate the flow in the region of the gas-fluid interface of a segmented flow.
