The paper reviews the performance test on multi cylinder engine using petrol and CNG as a fuel under variable load and speed conditions, which covers the performance parameters like fuel economy, specific fuel consumption, thermal efficiencies, effect of some operating parameters like exhaust gas temperature and engine friction etc. Finally, the comparative study on performance shows that CNG to be a good alternative fuel, as composition along with the highly desired fuel properties sets the right blend for the number of technical and economical advantages like zero evaporative emission, excellent antiknock property, compatibility with fuel efficient lean burn technology with optimum ignition timing.
