To analyze residual vibrations of rotational, globoidal cam indexing mechanisms (GCIMs) with/without torque balancing cam (TBC) systems operated at high speeds, a simulation tool together with experimental verification has been established. In the analysis of the vibrational responses of such a rotational indexer, a 5-DOF model is built to account for the non-rigid behavior of the motor shaft, the coupling of the motor, the input shaft of the indexer, the TBC system, and the output shaft of the indexer with its load. Equations of motion of the model are formulated based on the bond graph method, and they are solved by the Runge-Kutta approach. To verify the feasibility of the model and its simulation results, a practical indexing device has been built and measured for its residual vibrations in a wide speed range.
