Abstract
A procedure for calculating fluid shear stresses at the wall of two-dimensional axisymmetric models of dilated large arteries is presented. The procedure is applied to a model of a double-aneurysm abdominal aorta under pulsatile flow conditions for a time-average Reynolds number Rem = 680. The method is extended to three-dimensional artery models in Part II of this paper.
