Abstract
Modern hip replacements were developed in the late 1950s and have since evolved in surgical approaches, implants, and postoperative care. Consequently, surgeons use a wide variety of methods to implant more than 120000 total hip prostheses in the United States per year (National Institute of Health, 1994).
