A clarification is provided regarding the origins of the piston ring conformability bounds presented by V. Dunaevsky in a 1990 issue of a Tribology Transaction . The bounds stem from their earlier versions and , which were developed by the authors using a semi-empirical approach that was initiated as an alternative to the purely theoretical bounds and of late 1960s – early 1970s, which were constructed on the basis of the presentation of the discontinuous piston rings by a splitless model.
