In early design processes, called conceptual and basic designs, diverse ideas must be obtained from a global solution search using the constraints from unclear design conditions. Thus, it is difficult to derive an adequate design solution for a design object with complicated conception because current methods to derive diverse solutions depend solely on designers’ experience and knowledge. Hence, it has been speculated that a method to derive diverse solutions globally will further improve the design environment. This study applies an emergent design system, which derives diverse solutions that can be applied to the early design process using the concept of emergence, to an artificial hip stem design and a Body In White (BIW:BIW is a car body frame) design. Then the effectiveness of the diverse solution derivation in this system was determined by comparing solutions derived from this system to the solution from the conventional optimization method for both application objects.
