In this paper, the operation principle of the tuning fork gyroscope, the QRS (quartz rate sensor) from BEI Systron Donner Automotive Division is introduced. An AGC/OSC loop (Automatic Gain Control/Oscillation loop) design of the QRS is presented. The system response is analyzed using Matlab and Pspice, and the effect of the parallel capacitor C0 on the AGC/OSC loop is investigated in detail. A switch capacitor configuration is employed to realize the functions of full wave rectification (FWR), integration, and summation. The scale factor is controlled to be within 0.3%/V dependency on the power supply and 5% over temperature range of −45°C to 125°C.
