This paper looks at the approaches to engineering design project activity in 3 different countries: France, Germany and the United Kingdom. This activity taking place in the later years of varying engineering degree schemes. The paper deals with the issues of collaboration and gives examples of a number of ways in which collaboration takes place. What emerges from the comparison are the generic issues of the level of background expertise and experience and the manner in which this is handled, the formulation of the groups to handle the particular project in hand and the way that the relationship with invaluable project sponsors are handled.
