Some of the design issues of the 7feet radius materials processing research centrifuge of the Solidification Design Center of Auburn University are presented. The centrifuge consists of a modified rear axle of a 6 ton truck disposed vertically on a steel structure, the wheel-hub of which rotates a horizontal arm. The two-stage gearbox and the angle alignment system of the experiment container are some of the mechanism design issues detailed in the paper.
