Abstract

This paper proposes a design methodology to develop better quality, less expensive products in the shortest possible product development cycle, focusing on prototyping issues such as rapid prototyping (RP) and virtual prototyping (VP). Along with details of the proposed design methodology, brief overviews of the conventional product development, concurrent engineering, each stage of the product development cycle, RP and VP are described. Moreover, to make use of both RP and VP in the course of product development, their advantages and disadvantage are discussed.
