Abstract

The scope of this paper is to discuss the central role of digital mockups as a main visualization and verification tool within the development of customer specific products. Shown with the example of a new machining center the various utilization possibilities of the digital mock-up in the overall development process is discussed. The digital mock-up must be understood as a visualization subset of the digital product, which is supposed to be the most complete digital representation of the real physical product possible. The importance of the digital mock-up within the development of customer specific-products is addressed with respect to the main development stages. Moreover effective tools and data management for the specific customization are presented.
