Abstract
While design methodology is well accepted at universities, it is rarely used for industrial design work. This rift is caused by widespread skepticism regarding methodology in the industry. At the Technical University of Berlin, 13 mechanical engineers performed a design task in a laboratory experiment. The study has provided some results that can help to dissipate criticism of methodology. Furthermore, specifications for improving methods have been derived.
