Abstract
The fatigue design of elements experiencing combined cyclic bending and steady torsion is presented. Von-Mises stresses are compared to strengths predicted by the ASME Elliptic and Langer failure relations. Propagation of variations due to materials, manufacturing, and usage is discussed. Stochastic fatigue design using random variable algebra and simulation is presented along with an illustrative transmission shaft example.
