Abstract
The incorporation of computer-aided methods in design and development requires the preparation of assessment and optimization algorithms for design purposes. With regard to generality and ease of handling, a random search procedure will be the only optimization method suitable for broad application. The multi-dimensional utility analysis, which has long been known as an assessment method for multi-dimensional systems of objectives, was employed within the framework of optimization calculations. These methods will be explained with the aid of some examples.
