Abstract

A series of aids and rules for the design or analysis of complete or partial free-layer viscoelastic damping treatments for plates and panels are presented. Attention is restricted to damping treatments whose flexural rigidity is much less than that of the underlying structure — a condition satisfied by many damping treatments encountered in practice. The underlying theory is described. Use of the aids is illustrated via examples. Results presented are for edge-fixed and simply-supported rectangular plates. Results for other cases can be generated using the procedures described.
