Abstract
The dynamic response due to impact of a 2-D bi-material system is described in terms of a waveguide model involving two displacements and a rotation. Coupled with spectral analysis, this allows measured signals to characterize the waves propagating in the system; this in turn, is used to predict responses at any locations. In particular, the impacting force can be reconstructed. The results are demonstrated on an aluminum/epoxy system.
