Abstract

This paper presents an algorithm to solve the optimum design problem for general structures. The algorithm is based on the solution of the nonlinear system of equations derived from the Kuhn-Tucker optimality conditions. Sets of active design variables and active behaviour constraints are used. Some practical examples are presented to show how NWRAG performs better than other optimality criterion based algorithms for structures involving bending effects.
