Abstract

A computer model has been developed to provide a design analysis tool for assessing the flow characteristics of an engine lubrication system. Parametric studies can be conducted to predict the pressure and flow of oil throughout the lubrication system and to study the effects of various design parameters and operating conditions. This paper reports on the development of the engine lubrication system flow model at the Advanced Technology Centre in collaboration with Jaguar Cars. The results of the simulation model are assessed and its future potential as a computer aided analysis tool for engine development programmes is examined.
