Foam is a material used in the design of radioactive material (RM) transport package in recent years. It can undertake vibration reduction, heat insulation and some other functions. In this paper, a typical cask model was designed. With the Finite Element (FE) simulation, the stress response and energy ratio of the inner cask in 9m free drop test were calculated by changing the thickness of the foam and the weight of the content. A method to determine the foam thickness of cask design was introduced, and the next research direction was proposed.
